Pastoral Care & Sacraments
Pastoral Care is the ministry of
caring at the heart of the Church’s life, and includes the
ministries of all those who respond to the needs of others. At
Christ Church there are many ways to reach out to members of the
parish family who are sick, grieving, or otherwise in need.
Lay
Pastoral Care Team
The Lay
Pastoral Care Team offers
wonderful opportunities for parishioners to witness to God’s
reconciling love within our community of faith, which include:
...Taking
Communion to members of the congregation who are unable to leave
their homes, or who have a lengthy stay in the hospital or a
rehabilitation center;
...Taking meals
to parishioners who are recovering from an illness or surgery;
...Bringing
finger foods, or helping serve or clean up for a reception after a
funeral;
...Providing
rides for parishioners to and from our Sunday and Wednesday morning
liturgies, or to and from doctor’s appointments during the week;
...Taking the
flowers from the altar to members of the congregation after the
Sunday liturgies.
To request any of these ministries or to become a part of our
Pastoral Care Team, please contact the
Associate Rector.
Clergy Hospital Visits
The clergy want to visit parishioners in the hospital, but only know
that someone is there if they are notified. Please call the church
office when you or a family member is in the hospital, so that one
of the clergy can visit.
Healing Ministries
Christian healing has its roots in the Gospels, in the many
instances when Jesus healed the sick, the lame, the blind, and the
deaf; and healing was a central part of the early church. For many
years we have celebrated the Holy Eucharist with a Service of
Healing on Wednesday mornings. The Healing Ministries Team was
formed with the goal of offering broader opportunities for those who
wish to receive the laying on of hands and prayers for healing. The
following are available at Christ Church:
...A Service of
Holy Eucharist with Healing is held every Wednesday at 10:00 AM in
the Chapel. Anointing and the laying on of hands are available for
all who so desire.
...The Laying
on of Hands is offered each Sunday during communion at both
liturgies.
Training and study for those interested in learning more about
healing ministries begins each Fall.
Contact the Associate Rector for information.
Sacraments
Baptism
Baptisms are scheduled four times each year: All
Saints’ in November, The Baptism of Our Lord in January, Easter
Sunday in March or April, and Pentecost in May or June. A
booklet with specific dates and information is available from
the church office.
Confirmation
Confirmation is scheduled by the Bishop’s office,
and usually occurs in the late spring. Adults interested in
being confirmed should contact the Rector several months in
advance. Information for youth can be found
here.
Marriage
The Celebration and Blessing of a Marriage
requires consultations with the clergy, and whenever possible,
should be scheduled far in advance of the desired date. A
booklet containing pertinent information is available from the
church office.
Funerals or Memorial Services
A death in the family may be reported to either
of the clergy, who will assist with funeral or memorial plans
and provide pastoral care for those who are grieving.
