For Adults

We want Christ Church to be a school of faith for people of all ages.  That's why we offer a number of learning opportunities for adults - so that the members of the Christ Church community can deepen their knowledge and faith so that they may more confidently minister in the world.  Adult Forums and Small Groups meet at the same time as children's Church School, so that both parents and children can engage in learning, and then have the opportunity to worship together.

Sunday Morning Adult Forums

Each Sunday from September through June, we have an Adult Forum during the Church School hour.  In lecture format, we learn more about what it means to be a Christian - where we came from, what our history is, and what that might mean to each of us today.  We often talk about what it specifically means to be an Episcopalian and learn more about our own traditions.

Small Groups

These groups offer a more one-on-one experience for those who would like to delve into a specific topic more deeply, or to connect with others in exploring something new.  Some small groups are ongoing, while others are short-term.  Groups in the past have included a Prayer Shawl Group, Faith & Fellowship Group, and Dream Circle.

Bible Study

A parish-wide Bible Study is held on Wednesdays from September through June, affording teens and adults the opportunity to listen to God’s Word with others in the community of faith.  No prior Bible Study experience is necessary.  There is both a morning session and an evening session; childcare is provided for the morning sessions.

Mission Team

For the summer of 2008 we are planning a parish-wide mission trip, open to both teens and adults.  The mission team will meet throughout the year to plan for the upcoming mission trip. Youth are welcome to join the team.  Click here for information.

Education for Ministry (EfM) - Distance education program
Every baptized person is called to ministry.  EfM provides people with the education to carry out that ministry. During the Service of Confirmation we ask God to "Renew in these your servants the covenant you made with them at Baptism. Send them forth in the power of the Spirit to perform the service you set before them." EfM offers an opportunity to discover how to respond to the call to Christian service.s

EfM is a program of theological education-at-a-distance of the School of Theology of the University of the South. Students sign up one year at a time for this four-year program. It covers the basics of a theological education in the Old and New Testaments, church history, liturgy, and theology. Students meet regularly, usually once a week, in seminars under the guidance of trained mentors.

The Christ Church EfM program is currently full.  It is anticipated that a new four-year cycle will begin in the fall of 2009.  For more information, visit the EfM website or contact the Associate Rector.
